Virtual Battlefield

Together with our consortium partners we successfully completed the project Virtual Battlefield (VB) that was developed for Slovenian Ministry of Defence as a part of the technology programme “Technology for Safety and Peace 2006-2012”. VB simulation system enables real-time training for mechanized infantry units in the Slovenian Armed Forces on virtual training ground Pocek in different conditions of activity.

Virtual environment was developed with the modification of VBS2 VTK platform which is used by many military organizations worldwide. Emphasis is put on interactivity and display of actual battlefield condition with the help of new 3D virtual reality technologies. That enables correct understanding of complex situation and decision consequences.

We created different tactical training scenarios for some typical examples of combat and non-combat missions and integrate them into the VBS2 platform. Training scenarios enable diversification and correctness of education for members of Slovenian Armed Forces.

All training scenarios are made in a way that enables modification or creation of completely new scenarios from entity database of Slovenian Armed Forces that we created within frame of this project. This way it is possible to independently adapt VB simulation system to new training demands.

VB simulation system is directly connected (real-time) to command and control system which is in use in Slovene Armed Forces (Sitaware, BMS). Connection is made through DIS protocol. Above mentioned C2 systems from Systematic are being widely used in many NATO countries which is why this connection with VBS2 platform attracts attention on international scale. Direct connection is also made with ESRI/GIS platform.

VB simulation system enables the execution of computer assisted exercises which are performed on networked workstations in training classroom. VB system enables complete overview and control over the adequacy of tactical training.
