Crisis Response Operations Simulator (CROS)

Together with our partner ZootFly and University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, we developed the Crisis Response Operations Simulator (CROS) for the Slovenian Ministry of Defence. The CROS project is a part of the technology programme "Technology for Safety and Peace 2006-2012".

The CROS system is an education and training tool that enables appropriate preparation in a 3D environment for the tasks and environment the participants of crisis response operations will face in the real mission. Training with the CROS system and its computer assisted exercises enables the trainees to get familiar with their mission environment through general information about the country or region, geographical characteristics, history, language characteristics and communication, ethnic groups, regional culture, customs, traditions and religion, information about the mission, threats from the insurgents and weapons they are using and finally through tasks which they will perform during the mission. The knowledge that trainees gain through the education process is checked with interactive tests and a testing scenario, after which they train with pre-prepared scenarios of the tasks that await them in the crisis response missions.

For education and training of Slovenian Armed Forces within CROS system we prepared educational contents that are representing the environment and tasks at the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. According to the educational contents we developed 3D virtual environment of the military base in Herat and it's surrounding.

The CROS system, which allows training with the use of computer assisted exercises, is based on the sophisticated 3D real time CROS graphic engine, an open-source relational database, an education and supervision management system, a data exchange system, on dynamic learning contents, 3D models of assets and virtual training locations.

The CROS system is with the help of contemporary computer technologies presenting complex data at the crisis response operation. Education and training with the CROS system will enable more quality, safer and cheaper qualifying process for the crisis response operations participants.

The Crisis Response Operations Simulator united experts from a wide range of natural and social sciences and their knowledge and thus managed to achieve a high technological knowledge level.
