Visual simulation of upper reservoir lake for Pumping Hydroelectric
Power Station Kozjak
For the Drava Power Station Maribor we created computer visual
simulations of an installation of an upper reservoir lake for the proposed Pumping
Hydroelectric Power Station Kozjak.
The construction of an upper reservoir lake represents a
large encroachment upon the environment. Developing a "virtual representation"
of the proposed reservoir lake allowed us, along with the consignee, to test
differing configurations to find the best configuration for the location.
The virtual possibilities, provided through the representations,
for the placement of the reservoir lake will aid the consignee in developing
the best solution from an engineering and environmental point of view. The virtual
representations of the project will allow neighbouring inhabitants and the broader
public a clear insight in to the situation after the construction.
CHE Kozjak will use the periods of low electricity use (and
cost) for pumping water into the upper reservoir pool. At times of high electricity
usage, water that has accumulated in the upper reservoir pool will be let through
the turbines to produce additional electricity. This allows for a special sort
of electrical transformation.
